Google will make financial advertisers prove credentials to reach the US and Canada

The phased rollout is planned for early 2027, with country-specific instructions still to come.

Google plans to make financial advertisers targeting the United States and Canada demonstrate that they are authorized by relevant regulators or recognized registries before certain ads can run. The Financial Services Verification program is scheduled to expand to those markets in early 2027.

Google’s October 20 announcement says the credential check will sit alongside advertiser identity verification. It is a separate step, focused on permission to offer financial services.

Google adds a check on the service being advertised

The financial check asks a further question about authorization to offer the advertised service. Google is working with the American Bankers Association’s registry in the US and engaging with the Canadian Bankers Association ahead of the rollout.

The company says implementation will be phased because national regulations differ. Its announcement gives an early-2027 window rather than a single enforcement date for both countries.

Agencies need to identify which role they are verifying

Google’s existing financial-services policy distinguishes authorized providers from approved third parties that promote services on their behalf. Its examples include brokers, resellers and affiliates promoting services with an authorized provider’s approval.

The policy also covers some businesses outside finance, including those advertising financial add-ons or targeting people seeking financial services.

The general policy requires separate verification for relevant target locations. Applications come from an authorized representative, which can include an agency with administrative access to the Ads account or its payments profile.

For an agency, that separates the person submitting the paperwork from the business whose authorization needs checking. A finance client’s licenses, the agency’s account access and approval for a third-party promotion can be different parts of the same advertising arrangement.

The useful preparation is to identify those parties and which markets the campaigns target. The US and Canadian instructions will determine the accepted evidence, exemptions and submission route; the existing process for another country should not be copied into a presumed North American checklist.
