Ubersuggest review (2026): Still cheap, but not just a keyword tool anymore

Ubersuggest has had one of the stranger evolutions in SEO software.

Search Engine Watch wrote about it back in 2013, when Übersuggest was basically a free way to turn Google Suggest data into long-tail keyword ideas (kind of like Yoast Suggest, but a bit fancier). By 2018, it had become a more recognizable keyword research platform with search volume, CPC, and competition data.

The Ubersuggest today barely resembles that product.

Keyword research is still at its core, but it now includes competitor analysis, site auditing, rank tracking, backlink research, AI search visibility, content research, an AI writer, its own AI chat, a ChatGPT app and an MCP server for connecting SEO data to tools such as Claude and Cursor.

The more interesting thing, however, is what has not changed: price.

Ubersuggest starts at $29 per month, while many full SEO suites now start at over $100. It’s still selling lifetime plans, which is pretty unusual for a well-established SEO SaaS product. And what surprises me the most is that despite hard-selling their lifetime plan for years, the product continues to evolve.

So, the main question we’re looking at in this review is pretty simple:

Has Ubersuggest become good enough that you no longer need the considerably more expensive alternatives?

For people who run their own sites, freelancers, and small businesses, I think the answer might easily be a “yes”. But for SEOs with experience, big agencies and teams that work with huge datasets, it’s not that simple.

What Ubersuggest has become in 2026

Calling Ubersuggest just a keyword research tool today doesn’t do it justice.

Its current product positioning covers four main things: finding search opportunities, understanding competitors, diagnosing your own site, and monitoring performance. They’ve also added a second layer around AI search and AI-assisted workflows. It’s got navigation features like AI Keyword Overview, Bulk Analysis, Keyword Ideas, AI Prompt Ideas, and Keyword Lists, as well as project-level tools like Site Audit, SEO Opportunities, Rank Tracking, and Competitor Analysis.

If you compare its backlink database with Ahrefs or even Semrush, or its site crawler with Screaming Frog, the difference is clear. That’s not really what it’s selling.

The idea is that one reasonably priced subscription gives small businesses or marketers enough info to answer most everyday SEO questions.

  • What should we target next?
  • What is a competitor ranking for?
  • Which pages are bringing them traffic?
  • What technical problems should we fix?
  • Where are our rankings moving?
  • Who links to competitors but not us?
  • Do AI systems mention our brand?

That’s way better than the Ubersuggest I remember from the old days of keyword suggestions.

It was bought by Neil Patel in 2017 and has gradually changed from a free discovery tool into an all-in-one SEO platform. But it has still kept one foot in the free-tool market, which explains some of its personality even today. Ubersuggest usually tries to show you an answer before asking you to understand a complicated SEO workflow.

For newbies, that’s a plus. But for experts who want to slice, filter, and export huge datasets in six different ways, it can become a limitation.

Ubersuggest pricing: this is still its biggest advantage

The current monthly plans are:

Plan Monthly price Projects Users Searches/day Tracked keywords/domain Page scans/domain
Individual $29 1 1 150 125 1,000
Business $49 7 2 300 150 5,000
Enterprise $99 15 5 900 300 10,000

You can also get lifetime plans for $290, $490, and $990. With the monthly subscription, you get a free week-long trial. However, keep in mind that the lifetime plans are final and non-refundable.

That lifetime option changes the math a lot.

The $290 Individual lifetime licence is a good deal, reaching break-even after just ten months at $29 per month. The same basic calculation applies to Business and Enterprise.

Naturally, lifetime software deals always come with one more question: How much do you trust the product to stay useful for years?

In Ubersuggest’s case, it’s encouraging that this isn’t some abandoned side project being sold cheaply on a deal marketplace. The product is still getting some major updates, like AI search tracking, an MCP connector, and a ChatGPT app.

And the monthly prices are pretty competitive, too.

Ubersuggest’s pricing page currently puts its 29-99 range right next to much higher advertised ranges for Semrush, Ahrefs, and Moz. However, price comparison is one thing, but feature depth and reliability are another.

Paying $29 for Ubersuggest Individual doesn’t secretly give you Ahrefs Advanced or Semrush Business for a quarter of the price. Things like dataset depth, workflows, reporting, historical data, automation, and limits matter.

But you do get enough of the same types of features that the comparison becomes uncomfortable for the more comprehensive tools if you only use 20% of what they offer.

That is exactly where Ubersuggest’s target audience lies.

If you’ve got one site and need keyword research, competitor checks, rank tracking, basic link intelligence, and an audit every week, it’s tough to justify paying four or five times more unless the extra depth really makes a difference in your work.

The plan limits matter more than the feature list

  • The individual plan is for one project only. That makes total sense for the audience they’re targeting – solo entrepreneurs and small businesses managing one website. Still, it also means freelancers can outgrow the cheapest tier in no time.
  • The business is more practical. With seven projects, 300 searches a day, and 5,000 page scans per domain, you should be able to handle a lot of smaller client work.
  • Enterprise scales this up to 15 projects, five users, 900 daily searches, and 10,000 page scans. For high-volume agencies, 15 projects isn’t enterprise-level, at least not in the way a lot of SEO teams use that word.

This is something I’ve noticed a lot with Ubersuggest. The software is pretty flexible, but the limits make it clear who it’s best for.

The “good” news is that Ubersuggest sells a variety of add-ons to boost your capacity, like extra searches, domains, tracked keywords, competitors, users, AI prompts, and monthly credits, and they’re all available for as low as $5 a month.

User-friendly dashboard

ubersuggest dashboard

SEO platforms can have a lot of features, and that can sometimes make them hard to use.

Another database is added. Then there’s another dashboard, or the AI assistant. Then a reporting center. Before long, users have to understand the product’s information architecture before they can understand their website.

Ubersuggest has grown a lot, but the current navigation is still pretty easy to figure out.

The project-oriented tools cover areas such as AI Search Visibility, Site Audit, SEO Opportunities, Rank Tracking, and Competitor Analysis. Keyword research has its own group for AI Keyword Overview, Bulk Analysis, Keyword Ideas, AI Prompt Ideas, and Saved Keyword Lists.

There are more tools than before, but the labels usually describe an SEO task instead of an internal product concept.

Overall, it’s suitable for the target market. Much less complicated than Ahrefs or Screaming Frog at first glance, which makes it very beginner-friendly.

Keyword research is still the reason Ubersuggest makes the most sense

Even with all the new features, I’d say that keyword research is still the first thing I’d check out with Ubersuggest.

The current Keyword Ideas interface lets you search by keyword or website and then break ideas into views, including Autocomplete, Related, Questions, Prepositions, and Comparisons. You can filter the results using metrics like search volume, intent, SEO difficulty, CPC, and first page potential.

That’s enough to support several different workflows.

A content team can start by making a list of questions and related terms. An affiliate site might care more about intent and CPC. If you’re working on a newer website, you can use SEO Difficulty and First Page Potential to find less intimidating targets.

The First Page Potential feature is a perfect fit for Ubersuggest’s user-friendly approach, especially for those just starting out.

Most keyword tools will give you 50,000 keywords and leave the strategic problem to you. Having more data is great, but it’s even better if you know how to use it. If your real question is just, “Which of these can my site realistically rank for?” then it’s not as useful.

The classic Keyword Ideas report is still useful

ubersuggest keyword ideas

The standard table offers the general information most SEOs expect:

  • Keyword
  • Intent
  • Search volume
  • CPC
  • Paid difficulty
  • SEO Difficulty

You can filter, create lists, export results, and move from broad seed terms into question-based or comparative searches.

This isn’t exactly revolutionary, but it’s still useful.

And that’s important because mature SEO software doesn’t have to start from scratch every year when it comes to keyword research. It has to make a repetitive workflow fast enough that you keep using it.

AI Keyword Overview is where the product is changing

So, the new trend is to use AI for keyword research.

Now, Ubersuggest is pushing an AI Keyword Overview along with AI Prompt Ideas, and their current product mixes traditional keyword metrics with AI-generated suggestions and info about brands showing up in AI responses. It also includes AI prompt credits and model insights.

It’s not really worth adding a basic chatbot to an SEO tool when everyone already has access to ChatGPT, Gemini, or another assistant. The best kind of AI in SEO software is when the language model is linked to a company’s search data.

The team behind Ubersuggest appears to understand that.

The tool can use AI to interpret keyword opportunities, but the main goal is still to bring search demand, competitive difficulty, and user intent into the decision.

That’s way more useful than generating another 50 plausible phrases from a prompt and calling it keyword research.

Do not confuse an estimate with reality

One thing to keep in mind with Ubersuggest, just like with Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz, and pretty much every other third-party SEO tool, is that these numbers are estimates.

According to UberSuggest, their estimates are produced by combining data from multiple sources.

That makes the data useful for comparison and prioritization, but I wouldn’t build a revenue forecast around the assumption that a keyword displaying 1,900 searches reliably produces exactly 1,900 searches. Or anywhere near that amount, to be honest.

Competitor analysis gives smaller teams the questions they actually need answered

Competitive research is another area where Ubersuggest is somewhat useful because it’s not complicated.

The current product can surface traffic estimates, top-performing content, keywords, SERP data, and competing domains. The paid plan’s limit on the number of competitors varies depending on the plan.

For a typical small-site workflow, that’s enough to answer the important questions:

  • Which competitors get organic traffic that we do not?
  • What topics are working for them?
  • Which keywords overlap?
  • Where are the gaps?
  • Which pages deserve a closer look?

This is the kind of research where more data can quickly become less insight.

If you’re trying to decide what the next five pages on a site should be, Ubersuggest’s simpler presentation might actually get you to the answer faster, compared to an enterprise platform.

The key point to keep in mind is traffic estimation.

Third-party tools can’t access a competitor’s Google Analytics account. When you’re working with estimated visits, remember that they’re more like a directional model than audited traffic data.

If Ubersuggest says one competitor gets twice the estimated organic traffic of another, look into why. Don’t make the estimate itself a client KPI.

Ubersuggest’s backlink toolkit is now part of the same platform as its keyword and competitive research tools.

The Backlinks Overview report includes domain authority, total backlinks, referring domains, and backlink trends. Backlink Opportunity is a link-intersection workflow that lets you enter your own domain, compare it with competitors’, and look for domains linking to them but not to you. You can compare up to five competitors.

That’s the backlink report I think smaller teams will find most useful.

A giant table of links is not a strategy.

“These 83 domains link to two of our competitors but not us” is much closer to one.

However, if you are serious about SEO and backlink data is crucial for your strategy, I’d suggest using Ahrefs instead.

It’s okay-ish for routine competitor research, backlink monitoring, and spotting obvious gaps, though. I’d say it covers the basics.

Site Audit – incredibly basic

I really don’t know where to start with this. Let’s say it’s okay for very basic checks. It can’t compare to professional tools like Ahrefs or Semrush.

Ubersuggest helps you identify basic SEO and code issues, and it gives you recommendations and shows you site performance problems. Right now, the paid crawl allowances are 1,000 pages per domain on Individual, 5,000 on Business, and 10,000 on Enterprise.

For most small business sites, it should be enough.

For ecommerce, publishers, and large programmatic sites, it is not.

I wouldn’t replace Screaming Frog, Sitebulb, or a cloud crawler in a serious technical SEO audit just because Ubersuggest has a Site Audit button. Specialist crawlers give you way more control over extraction, rendering, crawl configuration, and forensic investigation.

But, honestly, not everyone will want to go through 40 columns of crawl data just to see what’s going on. They need to know that 17 important pages contain critical problems and what to fix first.

Ubersuggest’s job is more like recurring health monitoring than technical SEO forensics.

That also makes the weekly crawl schedule reasonable for its main audience. For a site that publishes a few pages each month, finding a broken internal link on Tuesday rather than Monday probably won’t make or break the business.

For a marketplace producing hundreds of URLs daily (or hourly), this is obviously the wrong tool.

ubersuggest site audit

Rank Tracking is useful for small websites

A person’s 125 tracked keywords should be enough to cover a small site or focused campaign. Business only goes up to 150 per domain, but the seven projects make the overall allowance way more useful. Enterprise hits 300.

For large SEO accounts, those numbers are not generous.

For a company that’s keeping an eye on terms that directly impact revenue, they might be all you need.

Off topic, no matter the software, it’s a good idea to track 200 keywords just as much as 20,000. It’s only useful if someone acts when they see something.

AI Search Visibility makes Ubersuggest more relevant in 2026

This feature is what makes Ubersuggest so much better than the old version.

AI Search Visibility measures whether a brand is surfaced in AI-generated answers and identifies prompts or topics where competitors appear, but the tracked brand does not.

With Ubersuggest, you can define your website, brand, and main topic, then analyze prompts and the resulting mentions. Its AI visibility product is meant to show where the brand, competitors, and cited sources are.

Each project includes ten AI prompts, with monthly updates. Business raises this to 15 prompts with biweekly updates. Enterprise gets 20 prompts with weekly updates and extra responses for each one.

However, it is not the same as a dedicated enterprise AI visibility platform continuously tracking thousands of prompts across every model and market.

But you get what you pay for.

A $29 SEO plan that gives small brands a way to measure AI-search mentions alongside their regular rankings is pretty impressive.

The ChatGPT app and MCP server may be Ubersuggest’s smartest 2026 additions

A lot of SEO vendors have responded to AI by adding a chatbot to their existing interface.

Ubersuggest has done that too – AI Chat is among its integrations – but the more interesting work is happening outside the Ubersuggest tab.

In July 2026, Ubersuggest launched an official ChatGPT app.

The first live capability is keyword research. ChatGPT can call Ubersuggest to retrieve keyword volume, difficulty, related terms, suggestions and SERP data rather than relying only on the model to generate plausible keyword ideas.

Language models are quite good at coming up with possible topics.

However, they don’t have keyword databases.

If I ask a chatbot for “20 low-competition accounting keywords with at least 500 US searches a month,” it can come up with 20 solid phrases. The problem is that the numbers might also look real.

Connecting the conversational layer to SEO data changes to asking the question against a verified and connected dataset.

ubersuggest chatgpt app

MCP opens a much bigger automation door

Ubersuggest also runs an MCP server that works with AI clients like Claude, Cursor, and Windsurf.

The current MCP supports 37 tools across seven groups: Domain Analysis, Keyword Research, Backlinks, Site Audit, Content, Projects, and Utilities.

MCP means Ubersuggest data can be one part of a broader agent workflow, instead of being a place you go to manually every time you need a metric.

A content workflow could research keyword opportunities, check out competitors, and put all that info into a brief.

A technical workflow could pull audit information into an AI assistant and ask it to group issues

How much automation is appropriate for any of that is another question. You still need to know how to interpret SEO data.

No normal API

Ubersuggest does not offer API access plans.

You can connect Ubersuggest to modern AI clients through MCP, but a development team looking for conventional API access can’t just buy an API plan.

For most Ubersuggest customers, this probably doesn’t matter.

However, this is one of the clearest reasons a technically advanced team will choose a more expensive platform even if Ubersuggest covers the reports its marketers need.

AI Writer is useful, but it no longer differentiates the product

Ubersuggest also has an AI Writer feature that can come up with article ideas, outlines, titles, meta descriptions, headings, and drafts.

A few years ago, this would’ve been impressive, but not today.

If you’re evaluating an SEO suite, chances are you’re already using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or another writing system that can produce a better first draft than most of the “AI writer” interfaces from the early generative-AI boom.

Ubersuggest downsides

The easiest way to write a bad Ubersuggest review is to either compare its feature checklist with Semrush and declare it a bargain, or compare every database with a specialist platform and declare it inadequate.

Neither tells you whether you should buy it. But here are its real downsides:

Project limits are very low

One project on Individual means that even a freelancer with two clients needs a Business plan, or additional capacity. The same goes for the Business and Enterprise plans.

The data ceilings are designed for targeted work

Export limits, backlink rows, tracked keywords, bulk analysis allowances, and page crawls are all good when you’re checking out specific opportunities.

They’re not as appealing if your workflow starts with “export everything.”

AI visibility is useful, but far away from comprehensive

Ten monthly prompts on Individual can tell you something. But they can’t tell you much.

It’s important for users to be careful not to turn an appealing AI visibility percentage into a one-size-fits-all measurement of their brand’s presence across generative search.

Ubersuggest vs Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking and Serpstat

Tool I would choose it over Ubersuggest when… I would choose Ubersuggest when…
Semrush I’m looking for a more comprehensive professional marketing suite, more in-depth workflows, extensive reporting, and larger-scale campaign management. I mostly need some SEO research, but I can’t justify paying a premium monthly subscription.
Ahrefs I spend a lot of time researching backlinks, competing companies, and analyzing large amounts of organic data. I’m running a smaller site, and I need decent, affordable link and keyword research.
SE Ranking I run an agency or an in-house program that’s already well-established, and I’m looking for a middle ground that goes beyond affordability while also offering a more in-depth professional workflow. Price is the main thing for me, and my projects fit well within Ubersuggest’s limits.
Serpstat I’m looking for some more in-depth SEO research and team workflows, with a stronger focus on data analysis. I’m looking for something simpler, and Ubersuggest’s lower price and lifetime option is more appealing.

The tricky part is that Ubersuggest’s cheapest competitor isn’t always another SEO suite.

If you’re working alone, you might want to try Google Search Console, Keyword Planner, a crawler, spreadsheets, and a few free extensions.

That stack can cost nothing, except for time.

Ubersuggest’s main value is that it reduces the switching between disconnected tools.

On the other hand, an agency that’s making thousands per month on SEO shouldn’t pick its main platform just because it saves $100 on software. If Ahrefs, Semrush, SE Ranking, Serpstat or another platform saves an analyst several hours or produces materially better insight, the subscription difference is irrelevant.

That’s why I don’t think Ubersuggest is better than the premium platforms.

Who should buy Ubersuggest?

Ubersuggest is suitable for five groups.

  • Solo website owners who need to make SEO decisions on their own but don’t want to become pros at using SEO tools.
  • Small businesses that want one place for keyword research, rankings, audits, and competitor monitoring.
  • Freelancers with a modest client portfolio.
  • Content marketers whose main workflow starts with keyword discovery, competitor pages, and topic opportunities rather than advanced technical or backlink analysis.
  • SEO beginners who have outgrown completely free tools but would struggle to justify a premium platform.

The lifetime plan is particularly interesting for users in these groups who have already tested the software and know the limits fit their site.

Use the trial first.

Who should avoid Ubersuggest?

If you’re running a big agency with tons of active projects, need super high-volume keyword and backlink exports, rely on regular API access, do specialist-level technical crawling, or build complex enterprise competitive intelligence workflows, you might want to look elsewhere.

Also, a professional link builder who spends their days working with backlink databases will be better off paying for a platform that focuses on link intelligence as its main feature instead of a single module in a budget all-in-one suite.

Ubersuggest can still be a useful secondary tool.

Final verdict: is Ubersuggest worth it in 2026?

Yes, but only for the audience it is actually priced for.

Ubersuggest is not a $29 clone of a $200 SEO platform.

The lower price comes with smaller project limits, lower ceilings on several datasets, less suitability for specialist workflows, and no conventional API.

The 2026 AI additions are also more thoughtful than I expected. AI Search Visibility goes beyond just blue-link rankings when it comes to monitoring. The ChatGPT app hooks up live SEO data to a conversational workflow. MCP makes Ubersuggest available inside other AI tools instead of making every workflow trapped inside its own interface.

To sum it up, it’s not the free little keyword suggestion tool that Search Engine Watch wrote about over 10 years ago anymore. It’s become a solid all-in-one SEO platform without the hefty price tag.
