Google rolls out updates to google tag and tag manager

Google has rolled out several updates to its tagging tools, aimed at making it easier for advertisers to measure website performance and cutting down on the technical setup involved.

Ginny Marvin, Google Ads Liaison, posted about this on X.

She wrote: “What if building a strong data foundation didn’t require jumping through a ton of technical hoops? Today, we’re rolling out updates across our tagging tools to make it easier for advertisers to effectively measure website performance.”

Marvin outlined the key updates in a video, covering:

  • Consolidated tagging tools – Manage all measurement settings for Google Ads and Google Analytics in one place, as Google Tag now integrates the advanced capabilities of Tag Manager.
  • Improved performance – This consolidation simplifies the data transmission process, which can lead to faster website performance.
  • No-code event tracking – Simply walk through a purchase like a customer would, and the technical setup happens automatically behind the scenes.
  • New visual tagging – A map view shows which platforms, like Google Ads or Google Analytics, are capturing your performance insights, making it easier to spot and fix errors at a glance.
  • In-account update guide – Advertisers will soon be able to update and optimize their Google Tag Manager containers directly from the optimization banner in their account, with the ability to preview all changes before publishing to their workspace.

Overall, this update should make ad measurement simpler and more accessible, helping advertisers set up tracking correctly without needing extensive technical knowledge.
