Google confirms August 2026 spam update is complete

Google August 2026 spam update is completed and rolling out. The update was started on August 18 and finished three days later, on August 21.

Google wrote on x “The rollout was complete as of August 21, 2026.”

When Google first launched the update, they wrote on x, “Released the August 2026 spam update, which applies globally and to all languages.” Google noted at the time that the rollout could take a few days to fully complete.

This update targets sites violating Google’s search spam policies. However, Google clarified that this particular update does not target link spam, the site reputation abuse policy, or several other specific spam policies.

What should site owners do if they’ve been affected?

As per Google, if a site’s rankings have been affected by August 2026 Spam Update, site owners should review Google’s spam policies and make sure their site is in compliance with them.

Google also noted that spam updates go through periodic refreshes, and recovery can take several months.

One thing worth noting
