Google Street View Live & Slightly Blurry in Germany

Google Street View has debuted in Oberstaufen, Germany — blurs and all. Taking a quick virtual tour of the city reveals only a few blurred out buildings so far, and one stretch completely blacked out.

If you stroll forward on Schloßstraße (a couple clicks after the last screenshot), we suffer a complete blackout on a stretch of road and are told “This image is under review and will be available soon”:

Because German privacy law forbids dissemination of photos of people or their property without their consent, Google gave German citizens the ability to opt out of the service before it even debuted. In total so far, more than 244,000 Germans have demanded images of their homes to be blurred. People can also request removal of their homes at any point in the country.
