First Street Named After Search Technologist

Word

via
Stephen Green about the University of Waterloo’s Professor Frank Tompa
getting a street named after him.
And the search connection? He helped found Open Text, which back in the day (1994-95ish) was the Google of its era,
including being Yahoo’s first crawler partner. Open Text still thrives in the
enterprise search space. I think the naming (it happened last October) means Tompa
is the
first person connected to web search to be honored in such a fashion. I’m sure
we’ll see Monier Avenue, Gross Street, Page Highway and Brin Boulevard in the future — but
Frank Tompa Drive gets there first 🙂
