Google Malta Suffers From Embarrassing Translation

Malta Today is reporting that the Google Malta home page was hacked.

The search button ‘fittex’ (search) encountered a momentary metamorphosis on Tuesday evening when the word on the button was changed to the standard Maltese insult of calling somebody a ‘penis in a can’.

Note: Feel free to insert quip here about the hacked search button. (-:

According to the article, the Googleplex acknowledges the problem but would not comment on the cause.

Postcript: This blog reports that the problem didn’t come from hacking but with the Google program that allows people to translate parts of the Google site.
