Google Adds One-Click Music App Integration

Starting this week, Android users can now search Google for a musician, band, or song, and tap a link to open the music right into a music application (Rdio, iHeart Radio, Spotify, Google Play, Tunein, or YouTube) on their smartphone.

If you’re like me, you’ve often found yourself quietly singing the couple words to a song that you heard on the radio. Once you get frustrated that you can’t remember the song or the artist, you bring up Google on your phone and enter the few words you remember. From there you’ll need to open up whatever music application you use and search for the song.

Thanks to Google, the whole process just became a lot simpler. Starting this week, users can now Google a musician or song, and tap a link to open the music right into a music application on their phone.

This new feature is only available for Android devices in the United States and there has been no announcement as to when Google will bring functionality to iOS devices. If you use any of the music services listed below you’re on your way to one click musical nirvana:

  • Rdio
  • iHeart Radio
  • Spotify
  • Google Play
  • Tunein
  • YouTube

Google wants music fans to know that they “hope all this makes finding and exploring artists and music on Google more fun now that you can listen to the music right away.”
