When released last April, Bing for iPad was a great app and went well beyond basic search. With the Magic Lasso update in July, it got even better. But it left phone users waiting in the wind. No more.
Bing for Mobile has a long-awaited update. The native Bing app for iPhone and Android devices has been redesigned using HTML5, making the experience the same between the Bing mobile site and the native apps.
This new update includes all kinds of updated data including deals and real-time transit information. While these features have previously been available from Bing results, they’re now integrated fully into the native app.
Another new feature is the way you can use different views to interact with business listings, public transit, and map directions. Various split views make it easy to jump between map view and the information you want to see.
The app includes multiple bug fixes and drastically improves voice-activated search, including the ability to recognize addresses.
The app is available in the App Store for iPhone and two versions in the Bing Market (Verizon Wireless users get a special version). Android devices must be running Android version 2.2 (“Froyo”) and a have a screen resolution of at least 320×480.
