Thanks to a partnership with film studios such as Universal, Lionsgate, Entertainment One, Metrodome, and Revolver Entertainment, UK users now have the option to rent films directly from YouTube. On the YouTube blog, the selection is describes as ranging "From blockbusters like 'The Dark Knight' and 'Reservoir Dogs, to new releases such as 'Hanna', 'Fast Five', and 'Red Riding Hood', and even British classics like 'Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels'."

Users can find the films at YouTube.com/movies. Rentals last for 48 hours, can be viewed on any computer where the user is logged into their account, and cost between £2.49 (USD $3.87) to £3.49 (USD $5.42), according to TechCrunch. There are also select films available for free.

YouTube video rental options were first introduced in the U.S. in January of 2010, when YouTube offered Sundance film rentals. The rental feature expanded to include big-studio features in May of this year. Last month, YouTube opened up video rentals for Canadian users. It's clear that Google is intending to globalize and expand video rental options.

Other Recent YouTube Additions

Other October additions on YouTube include extra user controls for those who are accessing YouTube via a Google account and the addition of a Telemundo channel.

The additional user controls for those accessing the site via Google account include to the option to have YouTube suggest videos and channels based on your past behavior, "like" videos, purchase movies, share videos across platforms, and connect your account with your other social profiles.

The Telemundo channel brings select videos and clips from the U.S.-based Telemundo, which features Spanish-language programming. The channel will also include summaries of what's been happening in major shows, and all videos will include English subtitles.

There's plenty of new content to explore on YouTube. So, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to sit back and watch 'Nosferatu', free of charge.
