Search advertising remains the online advertising leader, as revenues increased to $7.3 billion during the first half of 2011. During the same period, online advertising shattered more records, growing to a record $14.9 billion in revenues.
That $14.9 billion spent by U.S. Internet advertisers during the first six months of this year represents a 23.2 percent year-over-year increase, eclipsing last year’s first-half record of $12.1 billion in revenue, according to the latest Internet Advertising Revenue Report from IAB.
Search was once again the top online advertising format with $7.3 billion in revenues during the first half of this yeaer, good for 49 percent of all revenues. The $5.7 billion in first-half revenues last year accounted for 47 percent of all revenues.
In Q2, search accounted for 49 percent of al revenues, or $3.8 billion, up 29 percent from Q2 2010 when search totaled $2.9 billion.
In the past five years, search has been king, seeing strong growth, despite losing some overall share last year to display. Display grew to $2.8 billion in Q2 and accounted for 37 percent of all interactive spend in the first half of 2011.
Another online advertising record was broken in Q2 as revenues increased 24.1 percent to $7.7 billion, up from $6.2 billion in Q2 2010. Online advertising also hit a new high of $7.3 billion in Q1 this year.
Search advertising was forecast to hit $14.38 billion, according to a June eMarketer estimate.
