Man Threatens Google VP Marissa Mayer on Twitter, is Arrested

by ,  Comments

marissa-mayer-speakingA man has been indicted for sending more than 20,000 violent, offensive, bizarre, and profanity-laced tweets - including personal attacks - to the Twitter account of Marissa Mayer, Google's vice president of local, maps and location services.

Gregory Calvin King, 27, arrested Aug. 19 in Texas and indicted in San Francisco last Thursday, was charged him with threats transmitted through interstate communication and harassing communications. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison for the first count and up to two years in prison for the second count, The San Francisco Examiner reported.

Mayer, 36, who lives in San Francisco, was the first female engineer hired at Google and is one of its most visible executives.

The charges are federal and the FBI noted there was no known connection between King and Mayer. King's Twitter account has not yet been taken down - though all posts can't be seen. His remarks are definitely NSFW and hint at some psychological issues.

"In some of his Twitter posts, King accused Mayer of having him falsely arrested and being associated with a group that tried to infect him with HIV 'in powder form.' He also made derogatory statements about Jews, blacks and Latinos," the Examiner noted.
