Ad giant says Apple’s Safari is blocking its ads

A public WebKit complaint concerns the domain used for ad requests and delivery; the ticket remained open when checked.

The Trade Desk says Safari 27 is blocking a domain it uses for ad requests and delivery on devices running iOS 27, interfering with its ability to serve advertisements.

AdExchanger reported the problem on September 29, ahead of the October 1 podcast recap. The underlying WebKit ticket, filed by Ian Meyers on September 21, identifies the affected domain as adsrvr.org.

A delivery domain is caught in the blocking list

Meyers says the domain is The Trade Desk’s core ad-request and delivery endpoint. His complaint argues that its inclusion in a list aimed at identity and tracking services affects ad delivery itself. He supplied an example from a Yahoo article viewed outside private browsing.

WebKit’s John Wilander replied on September 22 that the team was investigating. On September 28, he said he would let Meyers know if changes became available to test. The public ticket still showed an open status when checked on October 2.

The issue concerns a particular domain and browser version. Neither the ticket nor the reporting establishes that Safari is blocking all programmatic advertising or provides a total for lost publisher revenue.

A browser block can look like weaker advertiser demand

A publisher investigating a fall in programmatic revenue could misread the problem if it looked only at aggregate results. Requests blocked within a browser can prevent an advertising system from participating through the affected route, even when advertisers still want the inventory.

A useful diagnostic comparison would separate Safari 27 traffic from older Safari versions and other browsers, then examine requests involving the affected domain. That can help distinguish a version-specific delivery problem from a change in demand across the site.
