IPhone and iPod touch users now have a faster and more unique way to search Google. The Google search app has been redesigned with a more intuitive interface that is extremely gesture-friendly.
There are a bunch of improvements overall, as you would expect from a Google Search app, including Google Googles, voice search, and even number of unread messages in Gmail.
The largest and most noticeable change is the sidebar. Google has added a slide-out toolbar that resembles and contains all the search options you would normally see on a Google search result page (SERP). You can access the tools by simply swiping from left-to-right on the search results screen. The toolbar – just like Google Web Search – allows you to filter search results for various categories like images, news, or discussions.
Google Goggles and Voice Search are both integrated into the app. From the home screen, you can simply press the camera button or the microphone buttons, respectively. Google also gives users the ability to pick up right where they left off previously by tapping the bottom of the page.
Because of all the additional features in the app, Google added an integrated help system. It can be accessed from anywhere within the app by pressing the question mark icon at the bottom of a search result or above the Google Logo on the home screen. Doing so brings up an overlay with more question mark iconsn to bring you context-sensitive help.
The new app is already available in the iTunes App Store.
