In today’s Forbes article about search: Calling All Web Search, Arik discusses mobile searching, a topic I’ve been posting on quite a bit in the past few weeks.
Here’s a list of some of the companies featured in the article (with links to SEW mentions):
+ UpSnap
+ Synfonic
+ Smarter.com
You’ll also read about the soon to be released, Crunkie (another interesting name, sounds similar to Clusty) from Emeryville-based Wavemarket. “Crunkie that will combine social networking, blogging and tracking friends on wireless phones. Think Friendster meets Blogger meets AOL buddy lists meets mapping–all baked into mobile phones–and you get the idea.”
Google in December began showing content from Android apps by including a link directly to the app. Google is now expanding the number of apps that are utilizing this search technology, with an additional 24 apps, including Pinterest, AOL, and more.
Google has pulled the plug on the Google+ Local app for iOS and is pushing user to migrate to the Google Maps for mobile app instead. Fewer than 0. 75 percent of iPhone users in the U.S. opened the Google+ Local App at least once in June.
Huddle has a new name: Messenger. Google also announced some additional mobile features for iOS and Android. And while just about anyone can join Google+, Google Apps account users are feeling left out thanks to a new conflict and lack of support.
