  5. American Ninja Warrior: The obstacle-ridden course of American Ninja Warrior has defeated many men and women alike. This year, Kacy Katanzaro was the first woman ever to complete the course. She stands at an even 5 feet tall and weighs only 100 pounds.
  6. The Duggars: The family from 19 Kids and Counting saw the marriage of their first two daughters in the summer and fall of this year.
  7. All About That Bass: Meghan Trainor’s doo-wop single has girls all over the world singing along and improving body-image issues in the process.
  8. Katniss Everdeen: Jennifer Lawrence’s portrayal of Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games series has proven to be a strong heroine for global cinema. In fact, the name of the main character even surpassed the movie title in search results.
  9. Cleanses: It seems like each year there is a new “healthy” cleanse that is guaranteed to leave you feeling better and dropping weight. Detox beverages are now available at many chains, local shops, and supermarkets.
  10. Polar Vortex: Record low temperatures in Wisconsin and Florida at the beginning of the year led to conspiracy theories and comedic responses. Later in the year, the Wall Street Journal pointed out that “Polar Vortex” is a phrase that has been used as far back as Victorian England.
