Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson and crew visited the Googleplex in Mountain View this week to shoot external scenes for upcoming film “The Internship.”
Much of the movie was shot on a mock Google campus at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, where filming has taken place since July.
Vaughn described the plot of the movie earlier in the summer: “I'm working with Owen Wilson on a movie called 'The Internship' where Owen and I lose our jobs and become interns at Google. We get free food, we get to play ping pong and take naps... We find a way to get into the intern program and try to get a job there. It's fun to go back and do some R-rated comedies again.”
Eric Schmidt interviewed Vaughn for an employee talk, according to AllThingsD. Several Google employees reportedly play extras in the film.
“Being from the Midwest, Google always felt almost like ‘the Wizard of Oz’, or like ‘The Chocolate Factory’," Vaughn told Bloomberg. "It’s such a different type of place to work at, than what is considered a traditional work environment, with a nap-pod, or access to food... and of course, the intramural sports on campus, and massages, and all that kind of stuff.”
Director Shawn Levy said it’s been an interesting partnership between the filmmakers and Google and yes, Apple and Facebook are probably jealous.
Google isn't a financial partner in the film and Levy made it clear they are not driving the script whatsoever. However, they are in talks to market the film together in what are described as “unconventional ways.”
Levy also dropped hints about Google gadgets that may make an appearance in the movie. Watch for Google Goggles and the driverless car in scenes from “The Internship.” Google co-founder Sergey Brin was the driving force behind incorporating Google technologies in the film.
"The Internship" is slated for release on June 28, 2013. Watch for creative trailers and marketing pre-release if Google are partnering with Hollywood for its launch.
