Yahoo Ranks Best Fireworks For Fourth of July

Yahoo Travel editor, Deborah Hopewell, offers her top 8 locations to view fireworks and/or enjoy celebrating on the nation's birthday. Two east coast cities top the list - which makes sense given the revolution for independence started around there.

Searches for firework locations get a big play leading up to the Fourth of July in the United States and Yahoo has included them in their annual Search Trends article for the holiday.

The travel editor over at Yahoo, Deborah Hopewell, offers her top 8 locations to view fireworks and/or enjoy celebrating on the nation’s birthday. Two east coast cities top the list – which seems fair given much of the revolution for independence started around them.

New York’s 35th annual Macy’s fireworks – termed “Gift of Freedom” – comes in at number one “will feature more than 40,000 fireworks expertly synchronized to a dynamic score while being simultaneously set off from six barges.”

Boston at number two includes the 1812 Overture being played by the world-famous Boston Pops with canon fire and church bells all adding to the pomp and circumstance.

Number three is off the mainland, in Hawaii. Lahaina, Maui hosts a “huge fireworks display that can be viewed from anywhere along the Lahaina waterfront, making for a truly unique and tropical Fourth”.

Fourth is in the state where everything is big, Texas but it is Willie Nelson’s annual picnic and throwdown that gets the nod for its “not-to-be-missed afternoon and evening full of performances by artists from all musical genres” held in Fort Worth. With problems with fires in the state, many of its counties have banned fireworks this year and has caused some outcry.

The remaining spots are:

5. San Francisco: Fourth of July Waterfront Celebration over San Francisco Bay.

6. New Orleans: 21st annual “Go 4th on the River” is a New Orleans–style party on the waterfront that culminates in the fireworks show set off from the “Dueling Barges.”

7. Washington, D.C.: The noontime parade travels on Constitution Avenue along the National Mall from 7th to 17th Street, followed by spectacular pyrotechnics on the National Mall, when fireworks seem to explode above the Lincoln and Washington monuments.

8. South Lake Tahoe: “Lights on the Lake,” where food vendors and entertainers fill the shores and docks, is ranked one of the five best fireworks displays in the nation by the American Pyrotechnics Association.
