While Google is celebrating with one of its Doodle 4 Google winners in the U.S., Canadian Google users are instead seeing a Google Doodle celebrating the 140th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
For Canadian history buffs, it is actually the date of the founding of the North West Mounted Police, which would merge in 1920 with the Dominion Police to become the police force known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The Google Doodle features an RCMP officer in the famous Red Serge dress uniform. It seems to have been done with cooperation of the RCMP, as the BC RCMP Media Twitter account tweeted about Google’s Mountie logo shortly after it went live.
It isn’t the first time that Canadian Google users have their own special logo. Earlier this year Google honored the Canadian penny being removed from circulation ]and has done special logos for Canadian Thanksgiving, Canada Day, and Canadian Elections days.
