Google is pushing back a product announcement previously slated for the October 11th CTIA event. The product in question is likely the Nexus Prime, but Google and Samsung decided to postpone out of respect for the recent passing of Steve Jobs.
The Prime Rescheduled
In a joint statement, Google and Samsung announced a decision “to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”
Both Samsung and Google have since confirmed that the reason for delaying the announcement is a nod of respect to the late Steve Jobs. In a statement to Business Insider, a Google spokesperson stated, “We believe this is not the right time to announce a new product, as the world expresses tribute to Steve Jobs’s passing.”
According to The Next Web, the new date for unveiling the Prime has been set for October 27th. It’s also been speculated that, despite delaying the product release, Google will still showcase Ice Cream Sandwich (the 4.0 – or maybe 2.4, or 3.1 – OS) at CTIA.
What We Know About the Nexus Prime
Users have been expecting the Prime to be shown off for the last two weeks, especially with the recent release of a teaser video (posted above). However, despite not receiving official product details just yet, users have been getting a yacht-load of rumored details.
This includes a set of rumored specs showcased by BGR. Those specs tell the story of a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, a gig of RAM, 32 gigs of built-in memory, a 4.65 inch screen with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, and a curved design that’s just 9mm thick.
Most users are most interested in the Ice Cream Sandwich OS that will launch with the device. A video claiming to be a leaked demo of the new OS whets the appetite of Android fanboys and -girls, while Google has remained very hush-hush on the features of this upcoming iteration. They have stated only that Ice Cream Sandwich will combine the important elements from both the smartphone and tablet versions of Android.
