Google’s Boutiques.com Falls Out of Fashion

Google’s foray into the fashion world isn’t coming to an end, but they are taking what traffic they have left from Boutiques.com and will point it to a newly redesigned Google Product Search.

Last year, when Google acquired Like.comfor $100 million and launched Boutiques.com, hopes were high among fashion bloggers and celebrities. By April, though, traffic had dropped 94 percent to about 170,000 visitors per month.

Don’t write it off as a total loss; Google will take the best elements of what was Boutiques.com and incorporate them into Google Product Search.

Shoppers can browse garments and collections matching colors, genres and silhouettes they like. If you stumble across a dress you particularly like, for example, you will be able to search for visually similar styles thanks to the computer vision technologies developed for Boutiques.com and are now migrating to Google Product Search.

Boutiques.com users will soon receive an email with instructions to save their data ahead of the October 14 relaunch, at which time users will be redirected to Google Product Search.
