Google is testing a new Knowledge Graph feature called “In the news,” per reports.
According to Search Engine Land, searching for reality star Jill Duggar of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting on September 10 yielded the news box in the search results with a link to headlines and news, as seen below.
Indeed, SEW replicated the results with searches for Duggar on September 11. However, additional searches for members of the Duggar family and other TLC stars and shows, as well as other unrelated newsworthy figures making headlines — including former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, U.S. President Barack Obama, South African sprinter Oscar Pistorious, comedienne Joan Rivers and 2014 U.S. Open champs Serena Williams and Marin Cilic — yielded standard Knowledge Graph features and it remained unclear what types of additional queries would yield this news feature.
“We’re always making improvements to Search,” a Google representative wrote in an email. “Happy to follow up if and when there is something to share.”
What’s more, by September 12, the feature was gone in searches for Duggar.
Perhaps interestingly, unlike the rest of her family, a search for Duggar family matriarch Michelle pulls up a Knowledge Graph with information about the TV series, as well as Watch Now ads with content from Google Play and Amazon.
