Yahoo is further investing in its search results as rumors have surfaced that a deal with Yelp is imminent. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, a “person who attended” a recent employee meeting at Yahoo revealed the search engine would be incorporating “Yelp’s listings and reviews of local businesses into results” and that it would be available “in the coming weeks.”
As of now, it’s all hearsay, but it would be a next logical step in Yahoo beefing up its search results. Just recently, we highlighted Yahoo’s move to update its local search results (shown below):
What’s more, Yahoo reportedly wants back in the search game as its contract with Bing, which powers its search results, is up in March. Yahoo may or may not be ready to cut the cord so soon, but moves are definitely being made.
Looking for official word on the Yelp deal, the Wall Street Journal reported no comment from Yahoo.
