Google+ Now Has Custom URLs for Pages, Profiles

Google has only made the feature available to large brands and verified celebrities so far. Still, the feature that will soon be rolled-out to all Google+ users enables users to personalise, and shorten, their URLs on Google's social network.

Google plusGoogle has announced that Google+ users will be able to take advantage of personalized URLs.

Well, if you’re a celebrity, at least, as Google has only made the feature available to large brands and verified celebrities so far. Still, the feature that will soon be rolled out to all Google+ users enables users to personalize, and shorten, their URLs on Google’s social network.

The new scheme will display the user’s name and a ‘+’ sign directly behind the Google.com domain. For example, David Beckham has registered the +DavidBeckham address, changing the football star’s Google+ URL to google.com/+DavidBeckham.

“Whether you’re a clothing brand showing off your latest fashions, an athlete talking about the game, or an actor recalling a favorite role, your Google+ profile helps you connect with the people who share your interests,” Google’s Saurabh Sharma said in a blog post announcing the feature. “… we’re introducing custom URLs to make it even easier for people to find your profile on Google+.”

Google also announced its launch of a “Studio Mode” audio setting for its Google+ social network, a feature that optimizes sound specifically for music.

“Since we launched Google+ a little over a year ago, we’ve seen a thriving community of musicians connect with fans in really cool ways,” Google’s Product Manager for Hangouts on Air Matthew Leske wrote in a separate blog post. “In particular: singer/songwriters like +Daria Musk, bands like +Suite 709, and many others are using Hangouts On Air to perform live for global audiences, and jam with fans face-to-face.”
