What’s going on in the field of information science? A free, online journal offers access to some of the highest-quality research by information scholars from around the world.

OK, I admit it — I’m a full-fledged information geek. I thrive on search engines like ResearchIndex, which make it easy to find academic and research papers in the computer science field. I can spend hours trolling through university information studies web sites, looking at course notes, syllabi and so on.

So when I discovered Information Research, an international electronic journal dedicated to information science, I knew I had found a gold mine.

Information Research publishes both refereed papers and working papers in the fields of information science, information management, information systems, information policy and librarianship. It’s been online since 1995, and all back issues are available — for free — on its web site.

The journal is published by Professor Tom Wilson, who is also Editor-in-Chief. There’s also an international editorial board, that’s an impressive who’s-who of information science luminaries.

The current issue has four papers, including an interesting look at Web search: how the Web has changed information retrieval. There are also numerous book reviews, covering both academic and mainstream titles.
