Yahoo! sells off job search site and strikes new ad deal.
The job search landscape is about to get a major makeover. Monster.com has struck a deal with Yahoo! to take HotJobs off their hands for $225 million. That would allow the combined sites to take the number one spot in the job search space – a place currently held by CareerBuilder.
According to comScore numbers from February 2009, CareerBuilder saw 12.2 million visitors that month, while Monster saw 9.5 million and HotJobs saw 7.7 million.
Winning in job search for Monster and shedding some weight at Yahoo! wasn’t the only deal on the table.
The two struck a 3 year partnership arranging for Monster to provide exclusive career-oriented content as well as job ads for Yahoo!’s U.S. and Canada portals. Yahoo! expects this to be an asset to its newspaper consortium as well.
In the meantime, the acquisition is subject to approval by the U.S. Department of Justice.
