How it works: You pick one of 10 categories, make a video showcasing why it’s so “cool,” upload it to YouTube, and then submit your slam. The categories are:

- Google Voice Search
- Google Instant
- Google Translate
- Local Search
- Google Realtime
- Google Image Search
- Universal Search
- Custom home page
- Other Google technology
Every week, two Google videos will compete in the “Slam of the week,” with users picking the winner. Winners will be added to a hall of champions section.
Google wants you to “get the people who would never watch a tech demo — the people who ironically need them most … to not only watch them, but like them and share them with their friends.”
The first “slam” features a video of a group of people recreating Mount Rushmore and then using Google Goggles to recognize it vs. a video of some kids eating marshmallows and saying “chubby bunny” to see if Google Voice will recognize it.
So Google is obviously looking to get more social with this effort while letting the people be their brand evangelists. Should be interesting to see if it gains any interest.
