Blekko and DuckDuckGo have formed an alliance against search spam. “Both our companies share the same mission of eliminating spam from search so that users get information from the best and most relevant sources on the Web,” said Rich Skrenta, CEO of Blekko. This partnership will see unique features of each engine shared across both engines.
Changes to DuckDuckGo:
- Blekko will now power DuckDuckGo’s search results for the following categories of searches: health, colleges, autos, personal finance, lyrics, recipes and hotels, using Blekko’s auto-slashing functionality.
- Users will also be able to utilize Blekko’s /date functionality
Changes to Blekko:
On DuckDuckGo, their “Zero-click Info” features provides a summary about the site or search topic without having to click on anything.
Blekko has incorporated this feature but limited it to information about websites, so users will have to click the “info” button in the second line of each of search result.
The partnership is demonstrates one of Blekko’s core strengths which is the ability to easily roll in other sites into it’s search results but could also help increase search query share, via DuckDuckGo’s larger audience.
