The auction would see 25 megahertz of spectrum go to a single bidder to build a nationwide network, 25% of which would have to be dedicated to the free wireless plan.of the country would need to have access to the plan in 4 years and 95% in 10 years.
This effort comes less than a week after Verizon and AT&T were the big winners in the 700 megahertz spectrum auction. There's unused "white space" lying between the regulated TV signals and Google has big plans for them.
Paul Allen, Microsoft cofounder, has registered to bid in the upcoming auction for the 700-megahertz spectrum scheduled for January 24, 2008. This is the same auction that Google has shown much interest in developing.
