Blogger has released seven new “dynamic view” templates. These templates speed up the content’s load time and organize your blog’s content in a number of visually rich ways to aid content discovery.

About the Templates

Google emphasizes that these new templates are built in the most current web code, and thus load “40 percent faster than traditional templates.” Additionally, media content and older posts are surfaced, giving your older work an extra shot at attention.

Once a single dynamic view is enabled by the blogger, your readers can check out the alternative views. There are seven newly added views:

  • Classic, which takes a simple and design-empty layout and gives it infinite scroll.
  • Flipcard, which creates a full-page tile of equally sized images with one image representing each post.
  • Magazine, a media-heavy style that highlights your most recent post and gives infinite scrolling for older content.
  • Mosaic, which creates an image-only navigation with pictures of various sizes.
  • Sidebar, which creates an “inbox-like view” that lets users quickly scroll through entries.
  • Snapshot, another image-centric layout. This time your pictures are put in Polaroid frames and presented like a large scrapbook.
  • Timeslide, which creates concentrated clumps of article headlines based on the timeline of the postings.

Want to see these formats for yourself? Here’s the Official Google Blog in dynamic view. You can also add the “/view/” tag after any blogspot URL to be taken to the dynamic version of the site.

Speed and new technology are factors in Google’s move, but it’s clear that the company is striving for richer media content in the blogging experience. For bloggers or groups who use a Blogger-based site, this means that images and image optimization are more important than ever.

From the preview screen, click on Apply to Blog. Alternatively, you can apply one of the seven formats directly from the Templates screen.

While you won’t be able to customize most of the design, you can still change the background colors and images, add a header image, and make other minor tweaks. The code-savvy can also add customized CSS. However, the Blogger team indicated that advanced knowledge of code won’t be a requirement for long; Blogger software engineer Antin Harasymiv stated, “We’ll be adding more ways to customize Dynamic Views in the coming weeks.”
