Twitter Brings Older Tweets to Redesigned Search Results

Twitter is rolling out an update that will help users find older tweets in search results, rather than only tweets from the past week. Only a "small percentage" of these older tweets will appear at first, but this percentage will increase over time.

Only a “fairly small percentage” of these older tweets will appear at first, but this percentage will increase over time, according to Twitter.

How will Twitter determine which older tweets appear in the search results? In a blog post, Twitter explained that it will “look at a variety of types of engagement, like favorites, retweets and clicks.”

The update is due to be rolled out across mobile apps “over the coming days” and the search history update will also hit Twitter.com at an unspecified time.

Twitter has also announced an update for its Android and iOS apps and its mobile site, so “search results now surface the most relevant mix of Tweets, photos, and accounts, all in one stream.” IPhone owners should notice a new search button that looks like a magnifying glass (Android and iPad app users already had this) next to the compose button.
