Google Funds Local Photo Mapping Project; 3D In The Works?
Scoop! Smile for the Google 3D mapping truck from SiliconValleyWatcher talks
about how Google is funding the
The Stanford
CityBlock Project, a Stanford University project to photograph cities at the
ground level. It sounds very similar to how
Block View for the A9
Yellow Pages is created. More details on that service rolled out by Amazon in
January is covered in our
Amazon’s A9
Launches Visual Yellow Pages article from SearchDay. SiliconValleyWatcher
also reports that a related project to create 3D representations of city blocks
is also in the works, though no one from Google or any sources are cited. I’ve
asked Google for confirmation, but they’ve yet to respond.
