St. Patrick's Day 2011 Logos: Google Ireland, Bing, DuckDuckGo & More

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everybody! Just as wearing green, parades, corned beef and cabbage, shamrocks, and copious drinking o’ the beer in Irish pubs are part of the annual celebration, so too has been the annual special St. Patrick’s Day Google Doodle and special logos from other search engines.

But not this year it seems – at least in the U.S. For the first time since 2003, the U.S. wasn’t treated to a St. Patrick’s Day holiday-themed Google logo. Ireland was, however, and it features red clover snakes in the water and swans:

Even Google Egypt had a Doodle today, featuring Sayed Darwish.

Perhaps Ireland dominating St. Paddy’s Day holiday-related searches was the reason the U.S. was overlooked?

St. Patrick’s Day is a public holiday in Ireland, and is also celebrated in countries including Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia — none of these countries were treated to the special logo either.

As Frank Watson reported earlier, corned beef and cabbage was also trending as a hot search in the U.S., with many seeking holiday recipes on perhaps the busiest day for Google’s new Recipes View search filter.

Other Search Engines

Bing posted a special picture on their homepage, pointing to searches on [leprechauns] and [st patrick day recipes]:

DuckDuckGo’s signature duck got in on the fun, toasting visitors with a green beer:

Ask.com went with a background picture featuring a rainbow, with their question of the day being “What’s the difference between clover and shamrock?”:

And here’s Dogpile’s offering, featuring the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and urging you to celebrate with Irish flair:

Yahoo also failed to post a special logo this year.
