Ron Burkle to Quit Yahoo! Board

Burkle will leave after nearly a decade of service.

Ron Burkle will not seek re-election to Yahoo!’s Board of Directors at the annual shareholders’ meeting this year. Burkle gave the usual reasons about other business pursuits and spending more time with his family.

“It has been a great privilege to serve on Yahoo!’s board and to work with such an outstanding group of people,” said Ron Burkle, managing partner of The Yucaipa Companies.

Burkle has served on Yahoo!’s board since November 2001. He’s seen major ups and downs from Yahoo! being the leader in search to former CEO Jerry Yang passing up a Microsoft acquisition offer to an attempted takeover by Carl Icahn.

In 2009 a new CEO, Carol Bartz took over and a search deal with Microsoft was struck.

“Yahoo! and its stockholders have benefited greatly from the counsel, insights and objectivity Ron has brought to the company during his nine years on the board. We wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Roy Bostock, chairman of Yahoo!’s Board of Directors.

If Burkle’s a bit tired, I’m sure we can all understand.
