Bada Bing, Bada Hoo at SES San Francisco

Microsoft’s Greg Nelson and Yahoo’s Mark Morrissey recently gave interviews to Kara Swisher of AllThingsD. Nelson and Morrissey are in charge of a two-year effort to coordinate the massive search and online advertising partnership that their companies struck last year. According to Swisher, their job “essentially is the search equivalent of herding cats.”

tony-soprano.jpg So, if Nelson and Morrissey are out talking about creating a seamless search and online advertising product that works quickly and well across two major Web properties, I wonder what the gang from Bada Bing and Bada Hoo will be saying in a couple of weeks at SES San Francisco.

Let’s hope they say something. It would be murder if the representatives from Microsoft and Yahoo! pleaded the Fifth and exercised their right to remain silent.

According to comScore qSearch, Google Sites had 62.6 percent of the searches conducted during June in the U.S., Yahoo! Sites had 18.9 percent, and Microsoft Sites had 12.7 percent.

According to Hitwise, google.com had 71.31 percent of the searches conducted in the U.S. for the 4 weeks ending 07/17/2010, search.yahoo.com had 14.47 percent, and bing.com had 10.03 percent.

So, no matter whose data you use, MicroHoo has a lot of catching up to do.

That’s why it would be a crime if the Bada Bing, Bada Hoo gang didn’t spill their guts at the leading search and social marketing event.

Looking over the conference agenda for SES San Francisco, here’s where I hope speakers from Microsoft and Yahoo! are wearing a wire.

On Tuesday, August 17, at 11:30 a.m., Shashi Seth, Senior Vice President, Search Products, Yahoo!, will be speaking at the session entitled, Search: Where to Next?

At 1:30 p.m., Josh Cobb, Sr. Director, Americas | Business Development & Partnerships Group, Yahoo!, will be speaking about Digital Asset Optimization.

At 3:00 p.m., David Roth, Director of Search Marketing, Yahoo!, Inc., will be speaking at the PPC Lab.

At 4:15, Wendi Sturgis, VP, N. America BD and Partnership Group, Yahoo!, will be speaking about Developing Great Content.

On Wednesday, August 18, at 11:00 a.m., Dave Zinman, Vice President & General Manager, Display Advertising, Yahoo! Inc, will be speaking about Crossing the Digital Divide: The Leap From Search to Display.

At 1:00 p.m., Pavan Lee (Peiwen Li), Senior Research Manager, Microsoft, will be speaking at the session entitled, Getting Mobilized! Mobile Marketing Strategies. And Paul Cushman, Senior Director, Mobile Sales Strategy, Yahoo!, will be the session’s moderator.

At 5:00 p.m., there will be a sponsored session entitled Bing: What’s Happening? The agenda says, “Details to follow.”

On Thursday, August 19, at 2:00 p.m., Bobby Figueroa, VP of Product Development, Yahoo!, will speak about Social & the Marketing Mix.

At the same time, Ben Shahshahani, Head of Search Sciences, Yahoo! Labs, will be speaking at the session entitled, From Real-Time Search to Dynamic Discovery.

At 4:45 p.m., Paul Flannigan, Director of Sports, Microsoft Advertising, will be speaking about Digital Marketing & Sports.

At the same time, Jon Mette, Senior Strategist, Search Optimization & Strategy, Yahoo!, will be speaking about Advanced Paid Search Tactics.

In addition, Bing will have a booth (#307) in the exhibit hall and so will Yahoo! Search (#312). So, you can always ask questions there, too.

In short, it would be criminal if you didn’t get some answers from the Bada Bing, Bada Hoo gang at SES San Francisco. Let’s hope they sing like birds. Capiche?
