Brett Tabke, CEO of PubCon, announced the news in a WebmasterWorld thread:

I am deeply saddened to tell you that long time administrator and member of WebmasterWorld, Tedster (Warren “Ted” Ulle) passed away Friday in his sleep with family near.

We will update this post with that information on memorial fund and/or a charity in Teds name when available.

Ted was a dear friend of this community and everyone involved. He always made time to talk to people regardless of their circumstances. He was one of the most friendly and approachable (sic) people in the entire industry. It was for that very reason that he was voted to be awarded the WebmasterWorld lifetime achievement award last year.

While Ted had been sick for quite some time, he never showed it or bothered anyone with it. His strength while facing it, was inspirational and trademark Tedster.

Ted worked for many of the largest brands on the interent today – from HP to eBay – and yet, he always had time to answer a stickymail question, or pop in a thread to send a new user on the right path.

We will miss him dearly.

Ted was a long time administrator at WebmasterWorld and gained quite a following in the early days of Google as being one of the great minds to chat about SEO with either online on the WebmasterWorld forums or at one of the many PubCons he attended.

I was fortunate enough to count Ted as one of my long-time friends, having met him more than 10 years ago. Over those years, I had many great conversations with him, including one last year at Pubcon Vegas. It was there that Ted received the first WebmasterWorld Lifetime Achievement Award, for over a decade of moderating and administrating one of the most popular forums on the Internet. He was definitely one of the most admired members on the forum.

The WebmasterWorld thread announcing Ted’s passing has been filled with many comments about his wonderful and generous nature. Ted touched so many lives. There are many stories about how Ted always having time to talk to someone, whether it was a long-time WebmasterWorld member or moderator, or someone attending their first Pubcon.

If you knew Ted and would like to share your own story, please do so in the comments.
