Only two months ago, a redesigned Bing Webmaster Tools brought new graphs, reports, and tools. Less than a month later, a new tool appeared, allowing site owners to disavow links. Still making moves, this week, Bing announced a change to how it calculates the percent change for various metrics in Webmaster Tools.
The change allows you to select a date range and then compare the results – and percent change – to the prior date range of the same length. For example, if you select from July 1 to August 15, the prior date range would be from May 15 to June 30. Previously, Bing only allowed you to compare a preset range.
This change applies to several metrics:
- Clicks from search
- Appeared in search
- Pages crawled
- Crawl errors
Since the advent of these new graphs a few months ago, it's been easier to visualize trends and changes in your site statistics. Bing notes that they store up to 6 months of site data in Bing Webmaster Tools. Therefore, the maximum ranges you can use for comparison are last three months to the prior three months. As an added bonus, Bing's reports also show raw data from both periods, not simply the percent change.
On the other hand, if you're not comparing time periods, you can see six months worth of data in one fell swoop.
If you haven't checked out Bing Webmaster tools yet, you're only getting half the story of your site's relationship with the major search engines. It's easy to get started with Bing Webmaster Tools, too. There are several ways to verify your site.
More important, Bing is always taking feedback. Duane Forrester, a former SEO, heads up Bing Webmaster Tools and knows what reports are important to site owners. Over the past several years, his accessibility and eagerness for feedback has been the driving factor behind Bing's newest offerings in Webmaster Tools.
