Nominations are open for the Conductor Foundation SEO grant for 2013 and this year, it’s open to charitable nonprofit organizations anywhere in the United States.
Now in its second year, the grant provides a one-year Conductor SearchlightTM license and ongoing SEO support. Housing Works, the recipient for 2012, used the grant to increase their search visibility as they work to provide housing and support services to those living with HIV/AIDS in New York City.
Diana Boric, VP of Marketing and Communications at Housing Works, said of the grant, “With access to the Conductor Searchlight platform, we were able to embrace digital marketing best practices and automate much of the time-consuming tasks associated with SEO tracking and analysis to capture more traffic, redirect staff resources to other marketing efforts, and ultimately drive awareness and support for our mission – to end the dual crisis of homelessness and AIDS.”
To apply for the Conductor Foundation 2013 SEO grant, download the application form here and email the completed form to [email protected] Applications must be received before 11:59 p.m. ET on September 5, 2012, for consideration. Conductor will notify the winning recipient by phone on September 10, 2012.

Earlier this year, we spoke with two other non-profits on the receiving end of “paying it forward” by an SEO company. The Arizona Humane Society and Helen Woodward Animal Center are both recipients of SEO software and services from Covario.
“As a NPO, we don’t have budget at all for paid search," Marcie Grube from the HW Animal Center said of Covario’s SEO support. "We need to lobby within the organization for capital for SEO and social and it’s tough, because that capital could otherwise be used to save the lives of the animals we help.”
The support is well worth it for non-profits, she said, noting that, “...if we invest in mobile-friendly, optimized changes, we’ve found that the payoff is exponential.”
Google also offers a nonprofit website program, to provide qualifying organizations with free domains, hosting, and AdWords money. They started another program to connect nonprofits with the services they need, as well.
“Over time, we've learned that many nonprofits require hands-on assistance to optimize the use of Google tools. So we're also introducing the Google for Nonprofits Marketplace, which connects nonprofits with professional service providers who have agreed to offer their services for a free or discounted rate,” said the official announcement of that program.
