Google is the most popular tech company in the U.S., with 82 percent of Americans having a favorable opinion and 53 percent indicating a “strongly” favorable opinion of the company, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll.
Google's Love & Trust
Only 9 percent of respondents viewed Google unfavorably, while 10 percent had no opinion (though this number climbed to 29 percent among seniors). Google was most popular among the young (92 percent favorability), college graduates (88 percent), and more affluent (66 percent) respondents.
“We have always wanted Google to be a company that is deserving of great love,” Page wrote. “But we recognize this is an ambitious goal because most large companies are not well-loved, or even seemingly set up with that in mind. We’re lucky to have a very direct relationship with our users, which creates a strong incentive for us to do the right thing.”
Apple Tops Facebook, Twitter
Apple came in second place in the poll, with 74 percent of respondents having a favorable view of the company.
Fifty-eight percent of respondents viewed Facebook favorably, though 28 percent viewed the social network unfavorably. Facebook’s popularity is highest among young adults (76 percent). Politically, the poll also found that liberals favor Facebook (70 percent) more than moderates (55 percent) and conservatives (54 percent).
Interestingly, more respondents viewed Twitter unfavorably (36 percent) than favorably (34 percent) overall. As you’d expect, seniors view Twitter more unfavorably, but what is surprising is that among young adults, Twitter is viewed as favorable by 42 percent but unfavorable by 43 percent.
The poll of 1,007 U.S. adults was conducted between March 28 to April 1, and published a day after Google unveiled Project Glass, it’s augmented reality eyewear device.
