Google Won't Release New Android Tablet Before July

android-tabletGoogle has reportedly delayed the release of its branded Android tablet until July of this year. Company sources told The Verge that the company had originally planned to debut the device in May, but concerns over pricing have delayed the release date.

The site reported that in order to reduce the price from $249 to $199 or under, the company has had to make changes to the system's design. The site reports that the tablet in its current form runs an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and sports a 7-inch screen.

Reports of a Google Android tablet have been bubbling to the surface in recent weeks. It was reported in early March that Google was looking to enter the small-screen tablet space.

Google is also reportedly working with Samsung and Asus on a design for a tablet which would challenge Amazon Kindle Fire in the tablet market and be sold via a new online store. The Kindle Fire sports a 7-inch screen similar in size to the device described in the Verge report.

The Google tablet isn't believed to be aimed at Apple's iPad, which has thus far dominated the tablet space.
