A Multi-Faceted Phone Directory Lookup Tool

by , Comments

Argali is a powerful directory lookup application that allows you to search and aggregate results from several web-based phone and email address databases. I've been using Argali for a couple of weeks and have found it to be a real time-saver. In addition to phone number lookups, Argali offers many other directory searches.

Searching web-based phone directories can be a real challenge. They're all updated at different times. Some have data others don't have. In some cases one directory will not provide a middle name or initial but another directory will not.

The bottom line is that in many cases you'll need to use more than one directory to find what you're looking for -- if you can find it at all. Argali White and Yellow allows you to search once and presents organized results from multiple databases appear in a single list.

Here are some of the features Argali has to offer:

  • Both white and yellow page searching.
  • White page search aggregates results from directories provided by InfoSpace, Info USA, QWestdex, Switchboard, WhitePages.Com, and Yahoo.
  • Reverse Search works with either telephone number or address.
  • Search the business directory by subject or business name.
  • Aggregate results from several toll-free directories.
  • Quickly find the location of a specific telephone exchange.
  • Search zip codes by location.
  • Built-in intelligence helps with name and location searching. For example, a search for "MacMaster" will also search Mac Master. A Search for Rosslyn, Virginia Also locates material in Arlington, VA. (Rosslyn is a section or Arlington).
  • Post processing offers you the opportunity to sort results using various criteria, such as zip code, last name, street name, etc.

This is just the beginning -- Argali is a very feature-rich program. The best way to learn about what Argali offers is to view the online demo, and then give the program a test drive to see if it works for you.

Argali is free to download and use. These days, it's important to have a healthy skepticism about software that's completely free -- what's the catch? Does the program, like Kazaa, Gator and other popular utilities, have hidden "spyware" that installs itself stealthily and tracks your web usage, or worse, subjects you to a barrage of unwanted pop-up advertising?

Not Argali. The program's developer, Boris Katz, has assured me that no spyware is distributed with the Argali.

What about the name? An Argali is a large mountain sheep. Katz chose it because the word has the same meaning and spelling in several languages.
