Want to see what today's print version of your favorite newspaper looks like online? Two services offer reproductions of dozens of newspapers from around the world.
Newseum, the self-described interactive museum of news, offers Today's Front Pages, featuring front pages from 260 newspapers from 39 countries. Tiny black and white thumbnails of each page are presented alphabetically by country on the left side of the screen. Mousing over any thumbnail opens a slightly larger, full color image on the right side of the screen.
Click a thumbnail and a popup window opens with a 560 X 800 rendition of the page. Within this window there's another link that will open up a high resolution PDF version of the page.
Today's Front Pages is a quick, easy way to check out what's happening elsewhere in the world.
PressDisplay from NewspaperDirect has a similar service with an option that lets you read the entire contents of your favorite newspapers online in their original form.
The service features images from more than 160 major newspapers around the world. You can see the front pages of any newspaper without registering or paying. Rather than offering versions of the pages in different resolutions, PressDisplay has a tool that works like a virtual magnifying glass on a full-size image that's only partially displayed in your browser.
The navigator feature enlarges only a portion of the full page at any one time. Use the mouse to move a small square over a thumbnail image of the page, and you'll see that portion magnified above the full page image.
If you'd like to read the entire paper, you need to register for a free seven day trial. Once the trial is over, you must select a subscription plan to continue accessing any pages beyond the front pages.
Several different pricing plans, depending on how many titles you wish to access, the number of bookmarks you're allowed to set, and the number of back issues available.
NOTE: Article links often change. In case of a bad link, use the publication's search facility, which most have, and search for the headline.
