  • Hack Reveals How To Remove Sites From MSN Live Search?Boogybonbon.com has revealed how you can potentially de-list your competitor’s site from Microsoft’s search engine. In short, most sites return a 200 status header for when you go to a page like domain.com/index.html?test=test or domain.com/index.html?test=test1234, etc. You can play on that by convincing Microsoft that a particular site has hundreds or thousands of duplicate pages, and at some point, Microsoft may penalize the site with a duplicate content penalty, where they de-list your site and home page. That is the short story, if you want the long write up visit Boogybonbon.com. Postscript: Other coverage at Threadwatch and Search Engine Watch…
  • Battelle “Grilled” Schmidt On Google Video, Google Docs & MorePC Magazine has an excellent write up on John Battelle’s interview with Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google at the Web 2.0 conference named Google’s Schmidt Grilled At Conference . John Battelle (which PC Mag spelled wrong), sat with Eric Schmidt for 30 minutes and asked him tough questions on YouTube, Google Docs & Spreadsheets and more. For example, Battelle asked, “So why did you buy YouTube? Was Google Video not doing well?” Battelle then noted that Google Docs and Spreadsheets were a Microsoft Office replacement, in which Schmidt replied, “We don’t see it as a replacement of Office. The focus…
  • New AdWords Algorithm Kicks In; Google Advertisers UpsetEarlier this week, we reported that Google will be launching a new landing page quality score algorithm for AdWords ranking and pricing. It has now been released and Google AdWords advertisers are speaking up. It appears, like in the past, this update is forcing many advertisers to bid higher for their keywords, in order to realize top placement and clicks on their ads. There are a ton of good write ups already on this topic, so let me send you to the ones I found….
  • Groowe Toolbar Gets Digg & Delicious SupportGroowe is that rare product promising to improve search that I’ve stuck with over the years. Indeed, this toolbar that lets you search multiple search engines is on my list of new things I always install on a new computer. Now version 1.5 for Firefox is out, with new support for Digg and Delicious. Fantastic!…
  • Google, Microsoft And The ‘3-D Web’When Microsoft launched its Live Local/Virtual Earth 3-D platform earlier this week, the memorable quote from Virtual Earth GM Stephen Lawler was, “It’s the beginning of the 3-D Web.” As a factual matter that statement may not be entirely accurate, but symbolically it is….
  • Google Video Adds Rating Sort & Label Search Filter

  • Google’s SearchMash Gets Features & Microsoft’s Sexy, Experimental Ms. Dewey Search
Google’s experimental search engine SearchMash has gained some new features while the sexy Ms. Dewey search engine is now outed as Microsoft’s experimental search engine. Ms. Dewey came to light last month. I spotted it via the Google Operating System blog, checked it out and promptly dissed it as a waste of time at the end of a Daily SearchCast episode on Oct. 16. The site features an attractive woman who stands above a search box:…

  • Collarity Relevance Engine
Collarity is a social search engine that combines a variety of different types of functionality to produce results in a new and interesting way. The basic concept is very straightforward, and is something that we’ve seen before -searchers begin to type in their search and as they do a little box pops up suggesting appropriate terms for the search – a little like Google Suggest but rather more sophisticated. There is also a slider bar with three settings for Personal, Community and Global.Clicking on each of these options will provide a slightly different set of suggestions, based on previous…
  • Like.com Offers Visual Fashion Search
Image search company Riya has applied its matching technology to a new fashion shopping site called Like. The idea is that you if you find a fashion item you like — a particular handbag, pair of shoes, watch or jewelry — the search engine will find related products by examining the actual image. You can keyword search, browse products or browse items worn by celebrities to get matches. I love watches, so I gave it a spin. In particular, I have a large collection of Swatches. So, I started off to see what swatches would bring back. I got…

  • Google Audio Ads To Be Tested By End Of Year
Google positioning for move into U.S. radio from Reuters has Google saying that Google Audio Ads will begin testing by the end of the year. Google says over time, up to 1,000 Googlers might be involved. The article, as does Google to Boost Scope Of Radio-Ad Sales Business from the Wall Street Journal , touches on the idea that a deal involving a radio player like Clear Channel might kick start things. But rumors of talks remain that, rumors. Meanwhile, I still find myself amazed that Google is doing absolutely nothing in terms of podcasts. Online video, it can’t…
