Last Sunday, I promised to keep you up-to-date on the new Rutgers Mini MBA: Digital Marketing program. Well, I found out this week that Juliette Powell, author of 33 Million People in the Room: How to Create, Influence, and Run a Successful Business with Social Networking, will be teaching two of the courses.
Now, the other instructors include Rutgers faculty members from the Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick, as well as the School of Management and Labor Relations. Matt Bailey, the President of SiteLogic, will be teaching two courses, Overview: Digital Marketing Strategy and Digital Brand Management. And I'll be teaching two of the courses, Social Media Marketing and Online PR Strategies.
Last week, Jeff Prentky of The Daily Targum interviewed Eric Greenberg, a University Center for Management Development faculty member and coordinator of the digital marketing mini-MBA, Bailey and me about the Apple iPad, which will be provided to each student in the new digital marketing certificate program.
Each member of the Rutgers faculty teaching the program will also be loaned an iPad. But I confess that I'd trade my iPad for the opportunity to sit in the courses that Powell will be teaching on Real-Time Research and Response as well as Digital Leadership.
Powell is a media entrepreneur and a community catalyst as well as an author who writes about the patterns and practices of successful business leaders who bank on social networking to win. Her background includes a decade of experience in broadcast television as well as in interactive/new media.
Powell, who is founder of Powell International Entertainment, Inc. (PIE, Inc.) and co-founder of The Gathering Think Tank, has worked with a variety of organizations and individuals. This includes The Biography Channel, Women's Entertainment Television, E! Entertainment Television, Cirque du Soleil, and Bravo; Red Bull, Mozilla, Microsoft, Compaq, Trump International, the United Nations, the Department of Justice, Paltalk, Rocketboom and Nokia; as well as Nelson Mandela, Prince Charles, Sir Richard Branson, Steven Spielberg, and Tom Cruise.
Powell has also assisted in the production of the world-renowned TED Conference.
Most recently, Powell was commissioned to create Canada's first cross-platform interactive show designed for TV, Internet, radio, and mobile applications. Capitalizing on her expertise in social media, Powell is currently working on the "whyTV" global initiative with Nokia.
So, yes, yes, participants will learn a new business model for digital marketing by attending the 10-12 modules in the Rutgers Mini-MBA certificate program. And it's great that all participants will be supplied with their own FREE Apple iPad, containing the pre-loaded program materials. But, imagine the stories that they'll be able to tell when they get back to the office.
Oh, about those iPads. I also heard this week that we will be using a third-party app for note taking. And the program materials that the faculty is preparing will be accessed via iTunes U.
But, did I mention that Juliette Powell will be teaching two of the courses? Check out what she has to say about technology giving us the means to co-create the future in this featured video from the Nokia Ideas Project.
