According to the investment bank, the Chinese portal and search services arm of Microsoft has posted profits and now counts 40 million users.

Commenting on rumors of an imminent content-based alliance between MSN China and NetEase.com Inc, CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets said the partnership is in the works and would be of strategic importance.

If the deal goes ahead, Microsoft would be making giant strides in the world's biggest and one of the toughest internet markets.
