Meltwater, the global search engine technology solutions, cloud computing and talent management software provider, said it launched Meltwater Press, a web-based search service allowing to identify industry influencers for better media outreach.
Based on the company's proprietary natural language processing technology Meltwater Press offers "intelligent search of recent media coverage to identify the most accurate contacts where competing products provide search through a journalist's pre-defined beat," it said in a statement.
Shifting roles no longer an issue
The basic assumption is that journalists do not remain within the same areas of expertise, hence MeltWater Press handy pick of "who is covering a topic is by reading their recent articles", it said.
In terms of figures, the system reads, analyzes and indexes several hundred thousand articles a day from more than 250,000 reporters, editors and bloggers. In a word, it increases significantly the likelihood of pinpointing the real influencers in any given field. Clearly, this could become communications professionals and marketers' new best friend.
Meltwater Press offers a distribution tool where users can send an unlimited number of press releases, media advisories, pitches and other content to their targets. The product interface is designed with functionality and ease-of-use in mind, and requires no specialized hardware, software or extensive training. As the service is web-based it allows users to build media lists and send out information from virtually any location. The key differentiator between MeltWater and other PR contact databases, is that whilst all function as a 'news-beat' search engine, MeltWater searches actual coverage rather than a list of contacts.
Interestingly, they found us via their own service and we were genuinely interested in how it could make online PR much easier to manage - the shoe seemed to fit. We hope to review it soon.
