Most Popular
Among the top five most popular web properties in the U.S., Google sites remained #1 with almost 179 million visitors in June. Yahoo edged ever closer with a mere 9 million lag, or 170 million visitors to its sites. Microsoft sites ranked third at 161 million visitors during the period. Facebook came in fourth at 141 million visitors, ahead of AOL sites at 107 million visitors. The most notable gains were those of Adobe properties, which went up 10 positions and ESPN, who won 12 spots as it benefited from traffic generated by the World Cup, comScore said.

Ad Focus
BrightRoll Video Network ranked first for Ad Focus, reaching 93.9% of the U.S. population in June. Mid-June, the company had launched a new video analytics reporting suite to measure the ROI of online video campaigns. SpotXchange Video Ad Network ranked second with a 92% reach and BE third with 88%.

Of the major networks, Yahoo only came in fifth with a 85.7% reach, followed by AOL Advertising at #6 with 85.6%. Google Ad ranked eighth with a 84.7% reach. Far behind at #26 was Facebook with a 65.9%. MSN was 34th with a 54.8% reach and YouTube 36th with 52.1%.

Trends
Looking at verticals, travel and online gaming were the two most notable streams in Americans’ use of the Internet. “Travel and recreation were significant contributors to the prevailing online trends in June,” said Jeff Hackett, senior vice president of comScore Media Metrix. “Summer vacation typically brings an increase in online travel planning, while those who stick around home during the summer spend more of their time doing fun things online, particularly gaming.”

So did you look/book your travels and play – all on line – in June?
