Search Agency Update: Industry People & Talent Moves

Lots of changes in management over the last week at some top companies.

Twitter announced a new CEO, Dick Costolo, as founder Evan Williams stepped down from the role.

Headline-making agency, BlueGlass Interactive, announced the acquisition of 3 Dog Media. True to form, the latter’s website has already been redirected to the new domain – these guys like to move fast. In essence, this acquisition brings the combined talents of Greg Boser and Dax Herrera into the BlueGlass fold. Boser, who frequently consults the search engines on their product changes, will become Blue Glass’s new SVP of Product Development and Herrera, a notable expert in WordPress, will become Director of Product Development. Speaking to Chris Winfield and Greg Boser at SMX, whilst neither would disclose terms of the deal, both anticipated significant developments of the CopyPress and Second Step products within the next few months.

Todd Friesen joins Performics, as Director of SEO, part of Publicis Groupe’s search marketing division. A well known SEO for being innovative and candid about ‘frontier’ tactics he has used, Friesen writes for Mediapost and does not seemed to have slowed down in the role change, sharing some interesting stats from SMX east earlier this week.

Jon Myers, leaves MediaVest Manchester to be appointed as Head of Account Management Yahoo! UK & Ireland. Frequent SES speaker and SES advisory board member, Myers’s extensive experience with creating holistic search and display strategies will be an asset to Yahoo and their advertisers during and after the transition to Bing/AdCenter.

Jon Kelly stepped down as the Head of Insurance for QuinStreet & SureHits, the Ad Network for Insurance and Loans. Brant White, former CTO of SureHits, takes over responsibilities for media and operations and will continue to head up the SureHits platform team. Adam Cherubini takes over insurance sales, marketing and corporate development. Both have been working in online insurance since the late 90s. Kelly will take over at This Or That – a debating platform.

Ron Burr has been named CEO of WebVisible, taking over from founder Kirsten Mangers. The news is a mixed blessing as it has been less than 9 months since WebVisible raised $20million in Series C funding, so could be perceived as a vote of no confidence in the previous management. That said, Burr has enjoyed his fair share of success at WebVisible, joining as chief operating officer in 2009, and drove improvements to customer support processes and operational performance during a period in which the company’s revenues doubled for the second year. An online pioneer, Burr founded NetZero and saw it through early growth to its dominant position as one of the world’s largest Internet Service Providers. Burr has eight Internet technology patents in online advertising and market research.
