Facebook Adds 20 New Payment Options for Buying Credits

Facebook has partnered with PlaySpan’s Ultimate Pay platform to expand it’s Facebook Credits Developer program. Users can now buy premium items and virtual goods in within apps and games via Facebook credits paid for with prepaid store cards and gift cards.

Previously credits could only be bought via popular credit cards, PayPal and mobile phone. In effect, the partnership with PlaySpan expands the virtual currency service by 20 new payment options in over 15 different currencies.

This is good news for developers and, in turn marketers, as it will broaden the reach of premium apps and games and tap into the rapidly growing social gaming market and create more opportunities to take your product to market via virtual goods. Prepaid store cards means that Facebook apps and games will be more attractive to tech savvy young consumers on low incomes – namely, the most lucrative segment of the massive multiplayer gaming and branded virtual goods market.

Facebook now supports MOL points in Asia, Facebook Credit gift cards from Target (US) and promises to add more ways to pay for credits in the coming months. Lookout for european cards, Paysafecard and Wallie, bank transfers options and Boleto Bancario in Brazil.

Developers in the Facebook Credits program need not do anything to activate these new payment options. They are upgraded automatically.
