Yahoo is planning a feature called Y Connect, in the hopes of driving and tracking traffic and to make more money from advertising, The Wall Street Journal reports. Yahoo isn't commenting yet.
Like Facebook Connect, which launched in December 2008, Y Connect lets users register and log into website by clicking on a button. User information could then be shared with Yahoo contacts.
While Yahoo would use this to target its advertising, media publishers, web developers and other websites who offer the integration would also get additional info about visitors.
Last year, Yahoo tried to compete with Facebook Connect, partnering with JS-Kit. Earlier this year, Yahoo made a deal with Facebook to cross-share content and social interaction on their respective platforms.
Yahoo is expected to post slight profits and flat sales tomorrow when it reports Q3 earnings.
